System and method for capturing and using biometrics to review a product, service, creative work or thing

A system enables capturing biometric information while a user is perceiving a particular product, service, creative work or thing. For example, while movie-goers watch a movie, the system can capture and recognize the facial expressions, vocal expressions and / or eye expressions (e.g., iris information) of one or more person's in the audience to determine an audience's reaction to movie content. Alternatively, the system could be used to evaluate an audience's reaction to a public spokesman, e.g., political figure. The system could be useful to evaluate consumer products or story-boards before substantial investment in movie development occurs. Because these biometric expressions (laughing, crying, etc.) are generally universal, the system is generally independent of language and can be applied easily for global-use products and applications. The system can store the biometric information and / or results of any analysis of the biometric information as the generally true opinion of the particular product, service, creative work or thing, and can then enable other potential users of the product to review the information when evaluating the product.

Risk assessment and management system

A method of analyzing and presenting a series of risk factors associated with the operation of a business, such as a bank. Quantifiable risk factors are identified. Ranges of acceptable and unacceptable values for the factors are selected and arranged to each factor. Each risk factor has an immediacy value, or risk tolerance, assigned to it. A business is evaluated by measuring the actual values for each factor found in the business, comparing the actual values to the user-defined acceptable value ranges for each factor and creating a report identifying unacceptable valued risk factors and their immediacy value to the business. The measuring, evaluating and reporting may be automated using a computer, or portions can be done manually.

Battery performance monitor

Improvements both in the methods whereby existing techniques for determining the condition of a battery are communicated to a user (for example, to the owner of a private vehicle, or to the service manager of a fleet of vehicles), or the vehicle's operating system, and in the methods for evaluating the condition of the battery are disclosed. It has been discovered by the inventors that the difference in internal resistance of a fully charged battery as measured during charging and as measured after charging is greater for a battery in poor condition than for a new battery. The invention relates in part to instruments and corresponding methods for evaluating the condition of a battery utilizing this discovery.

Optical Condition Design Method for a Compound-Eye Imaging Device

An imaginary object plane is set in front of an imaging device body (plane setting step). A part of optical conditions of optical lenses are changed as variables, and positions of points (pixel observation points) on the imaginary object plane where lights coming from pixels of a solid-state imaging element and back-projected through the optical lenses are calculated (pixel observation point calculating step). The dispersion in position of the calculated pixel observation points is evaluated (evaluating step). Finally, a set of values of the variables giving maximum evaluated dispersion of the calculated pixel observation points is determined as optimum optical condition of the optical lenses (condition determining step). This reduces the number of pixels which image the same portions of the target object, making it possible to reduce portions of the same image information in multiple unit images, and to stably obtain a reconstructed image having a high definition.

Force monitoring shoe

An apparatus and method of operation for measuring forces applied to a wearer's foot, the apparatus providing an indication to the wearer when forces on the foot exceed pre-selected upper limits or do not meet pre-selected lower limits. A body member is disclosed for attachment around the wearer's foot, the body member having an exterior sole and an interior sole portion covered by a rigid foot plate. The foot plate includes an upper support surface for contact with the foot. The interior sole portion includes at least one cavity within, with a force sensing unit attachable partially within the cavity. At least one strain gage is positioned at a midpoint on the force sensing unit, and the force sensing unit is connectable to the underside of the foot plate. An electronic means is mounted within the cavity and is electrically connected to the at least one strain gage. The electronic means receives electronic signals from the strain gage, the signals in proportion to force applied onto the force sensing unit when the wearer's foot applies weight onto the foot plate, with conversion of the signals to output signals for transmission to a signal processing means in a remotely located receiver and display unit. The display unit compares the output signals to upper limits and lower limits, and displays alarms when output signals do not reach lower limits, or exceed upper limits, therefore assisting with therapeutic rehabilitation of an injured lower extremity.

Patellar trial and drill guide for use in knee replacement surgery

A patellar trial and drill guide for use during knee replacement surgery comprising an articular surface member and a fixation peg drill guide. The articular surface member is the exact geometry as the artificial patellar implant, and the drill guide aligns the holes for the fixation pegs of the artificial patellar implant. The patellar trial is placed on the resected patella in the desired position, a patellar clamp is used to temporary fix the patellar trial to the patella. The patella is then returned to its normal position and a trial reduction of the total knee replacement is completed. If the placement and / or size of the patellar trial is unacceptable, the patella is inverted, the patellar trial removed, and a different sized trial or new location is determined. The new patellar trial is secured to the resected patella, and another trial reduction of the total knee replacement is completed. This procedure can be repeated until the patellar trial is the correct size and in the proper location. If the placement of the patella is acceptable, the patella is inverted, the articular surface member removed, fixation peg holes are drilled using the fixation peg holes of the drill guide, and an artificial patellar implant is implanted on the patient's remaining patella.

Methods for accurately assessing the condition of a petroleum reservoir and designing and implementing a plan of action to increase production and recovery of petroleum from the reservoir. Information is gathered using a unique set of metrics and information gathering techniques and analyzed in a targeted fashion by properly weighting the data in the context of the particular reservoir and goals of the producer. A reservoir rating is generated using asymmetric analysis of metrics and then used to formulate a plan of action. Production architecture (e.g., number, location and manner of constructing oil and injector wells) is then constructed according to the plan of action. Reservoir performance can be continuously monitored and used to verify production and recovery goals and / or provide triggers or alarms to alter production equipment.
