[0055] For a complete understanding, refer to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, like reference numbers are used throughout to refer to the same or equivalent elements. It should also be noted that the drawings may not be drawn to scale and certain areas may have been intentionally drawn out of scale in order to properly illustrate features and concepts.

[0056] A cloud environment uses computing resources (hardware and software) provided as a service over a network, usually the Internet. For example, in a cloud environment, users may "rent" application software and / or databases, where the "cloud" provider manages the infrastructure and platform on which the applications run and the databases are stored.

[0057] As another example, end users may access cloud-based applications through web browsers or light desktop or mobile applications, while the software and user's data are stored on servers at remote locations.

Abstract

A virtual printer interface node enables a non-cloud-ready printer to communicate with a cloud- based service, residing on an internet. The virtual printer interface node includes a housing; a communication interface to provide communication directly to the network router; and a microcontroller operatively connected to the communication interface. The microcontroller converts commands, received through the communication interface, from the cloud-based service, residing on the internet, to native protocols of the non-cloud-ready networked printer and communicates the converted native protocols to the non-cloud-ready networked printer.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a virtual printer interface node. Background technique [0002] Cloud computing is the use of computing resources (hardware and software) provided as a service over a network, usually the Internet. Traditionally, cloud computing has focused on web / cloud-based applications and web-connected mobile devices. However, as the capabilities of these web / cloud-based applications and mobile devices become greater, users expect from these web / cloud-based applications and mobile devices the same capabilities that users receive from their personal computers . One such capability is printing. [0003] The print architecture and protocols (print drivers) of conventional personal computer operating systems are complex, and are often proprietary to manufacturers of printing devices. [0004] In contrast, cloud-based systems are based on the realization of coherence and economies of scale and thus rely on converged infrastructure and shared...
