Abstract

Sharing of a common hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processing space by multiple unlicensed spectrum component carriers is described. Since communication access is not guaranteed on the unlicensed spectrum, a group of component carriers in the unlicensed spectrum is allocated to share a common HARQ processing space such that uplink or downlink data will pass through the group Any one or more of the component carriers that pass the Clear Channel Access (CCA) check are sent. The receiver then provides a HARQ processing response on the same HARQ processing space using the grouped component carriers sharing the common HARQ processing space. Thus, any one or more component carriers of a set of component carriers sharing said common HARQ processing space may carry both transmitted data and HARQ processing responses to attempted data transmissions.
