[0015] Referring to the drawings, a fuel filtration system is depicted that includes an automatic drain assembly for draining water that accumulates in the filter housing. The filtration system includes a filter media configured to remove particulate matter and dispersed water contained in fuel. This water is drained to a drain reservoir within the filter housing where it is collected. When the water reaches a threshold level, the controller issues a warning to the engine operator, such as by illuminating a gauge light, which instructs the operator to shut down the engine. When the engine is turned off, the collected water is drained through the electric valve of the automatic drain assembly, such as a solenoid valve. In some arrangements, the auto-drain assembly can be retrofitted to an existing fuel filtration system, thereby reducing the cost of installing the auto-drain assembly to an existing internal combustion engine.

Abstract

The invention discloses a fuel filter system and an automatic drainage system for a fuel filter system of an internal combustion engine. The fuel filter system has an automatic drainage component for accumulating water in a shell of a filter. The filter system comprises a filter medium; the filter medium is allocated to remove particle substances contained in fuel and dispersed water. The water is drained into a drainage storer in the shell of the filter, and is collected in the drainage storer. When the water reaches a thread level, a controller gives an alarm to an engine operator, for example, an instrument lamp instructs the operator to close an engine. When the engine is closed, a valve of an automatic drainage component drains the collected water. In several arrangements, the automatic drainage component can be additionally mounted on a traditional fuel filter system, so that the cost of mounting the automatic drainage component on a traditional internal combustion engine is reduced.
