Abstract

Exemplary embodiments relate to detecting and authenticating a wireless rechargeable device positioned within a charging zone of a wireless power transmitter. A device may include a detection circuit including an oscillator configured to detect a change in frequency of the oscillator. The device may also include a wireless power transmitter configured to determine whether a chargeable device is positioned within a charging region of the transmitter after the detection circuit detects the change in the frequency of the oscillator , wherein the transmitter is further configured to be selectively electrically isolated from the detection circuit.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to wireless power, and more particularly to wireless power transmitters for detecting valid chargeable devices positioned within an associated charging zone. Background technique [0002] An increasing number and variety of electronic devices are powered by rechargeable batteries. Such devices include mobile phones, portable music players, laptop computers, tablet computers, computer peripherals, communication devices (eg, Bluetooth devices), digital cameras, hearing aids, and the like. While battery technology has improved, battery-powered electronic devices have increasingly required and consumed larger amounts of power. Thus, these devices constantly require recharging. Rechargeable devices are often charged via a wired connection through a cable or other similar connector that is physically connected to a power supply. Cables and similar connectors can sometimes be inconvenient or bulky, among other disadv...
