Embodiment Construction

[0031] will refer to Figure 1-7 The embodiment shown in describes an acceleration-based motion tolerance and predictive encoding method 10 . As will be described more fully hereinafter, the acceleration-based motion tolerance and predictive encoding method 10 allows a user to more quickly and efficiently operate a scanner to scan codes.

[0032] The following disclosure provides systems and methods for predicting the location of a region of interest within an image of a scannable object. The acceleration-based motion tolerance and predictive encoding method and system are particularly useful for locating and scanning barcodes and other decodable indicia known to those of ordinary skill in the art, but are equally useful for scanning other objects. For example, the invention can be applied to object location, facial recognition, and other applications of image processing.

[0033] In the exemplary embodiment, scanner 12 has housing 14 that supports electronic components incl...

Abstract

The present invention relates to acceleration-based motion tolerance and predictive coding. A method of predicting the location of a region of interest within an image of a scannable object, comprising: providing a scanner having a processor and an image sensor; sensing towards the scannable object in a viewing direction, wherein the imaging plane is perpendicular to the viewing direction ; Capture an image of a scannable object with an image sensor; Sense movement of the scanner relative to the scannable object within the motion sensor plane, which is parallel to the imaging plane; output velocity and direction of motion corresponding to velocity; respond to velocity and locating a region of interest in the captured image; and scanning the captured image starting with the region of interest.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application requests submissions on December 27, 2014 for Acceleration-Based Motion Tolerance and Predictive Coding Priority to US Patent Application No. 62 / 097,056, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to barcode scanners, and more particularly to portable barcode scanners embedded in smart phone devices or portable data terminals. Background technique [0004] Conventional barcode scanners decode barcodes as they pass the center of the sensor's field of view. However, these conventional barcode scanners have limited acceleration-based motion tolerance and are often unable to decode barcodes or other decodable indicia as they pass quickly through the center of the sensor's field of view, especially when the barcode scanner is a portable data terminal (PDT) or smartphone device. Contents of the invention [0005] In an as...
