The embodiment of the invention discloses a fingerprint unlocking method and a mobile terminal. The fingerprint unlocking method comprises the following steps: extracting at least one detail feature point in a fingerprint image inputted by a user; sorting at least one preset fingerprint template according to the quantity of the detail feature points matched with the inputted fingerprint image; successively comparing the inputted fingerprint image with the at least one fingerprint template according to the sorting; and unlocking the mobile terminal when the matching degree between the inputted fingerprint image and at least one fingerprint template reaches a preset matching degree threshold. According to the embodiment of the invention, the matching of the fingerprint template at a higher matching degree is preferably performed by adjusting the sorting of the fingerprint template, the matching speed can be increased, and the efficiency of recognizing the fingerprint is promoted.
