Embodiment Construction

[0043] In general, the embodiments herein relate to methods and apparatus for enabling secondary tasks to be accomplished during semi-autonomous driving of a road vehicle 1 having a device comprising a device arranged in An infotainment system 2 of one or more infotainment display units 3 within a vehicle cabin 4 and a semi-autonomous driver assistance system 5 comprising one or more sensors 6 for acquiring data ahead of the road.

[0044] Highly autonomous road vehicles 1 allow drivers to spend time on secondary tasks such as reading or surfing the web. However, this requires a lot of repetition in terms of sensing, computing and actuation to be able to do it in a safe manner. Semi-autonomous driver assistance systems 5 (such as Pilot Assist and Traffic Jam Assist) generally do not have this repetition but require that the driver of the road vehicle 1 is always in the loop, i.e. A generally semi-autonomous driver assistance system 5 will assist in driving the road vehicle 1 ...

Abstract

A method and arrangement are disclosed for allowing secondary tasks during semi-automated driving of a road vehicle having an infotainment system including one or more display units, and a semi-automated driver assist system having one or more sensors for acquiring data of a road ahead. A confidence of the ability of the semi-automated driver assist system to control the road vehicle autonomously is determined from at least acquired data of the road ahead. A viewing direction of a driver of the road vehicle is determined by using a driver monitoring camera. Autonomous control is allowed if the viewing direction of the driver is determined to be towards the road ahead or towards a display unit of the infotainment system and the confidence is determined to be above a confidence threshold, otherwise any ongoing autonomous control is cancelled and the driver urged to assume control of the road vehicle.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments herein relate to a method and apparatus for enabling secondary tasks during semi-autonomous driving of a road vehicle having an infotainment system and a semi-autonomous driver assistance system provided in the vehicle cabin One or more infotainment display units within a semi-autonomous driver assistance system comprising one or more sensors for acquiring data ahead of the road; embodiments herein also relate to a road vehicle comprising such a device. Background technique [0002] More and more cars are equipped with sensors that monitor their surroundings. This sensory information can be used to control the future trajectory of road vehicles. This autonomous operation can range from a fully autonomous vehicle, where the vehicle sensors monitor all feasible conditions in the vehicular environment in which the vehicle is allowed to travel without driver supervision, to a driver-controlled vehicle, to a driver-controlled vehicle, Sensory ...
