Embodiments include apparatus, methods and systems for reducing handover delays in integrated wireless local area network (WLAN) and wireless cellular networks. In an embodiment, a User Equipment (UE) may communicate with a Packet Data Network (PDN) Gateway (P-GW) via a WLAN and / or a wireless cellular network. Various embodiments may provide monitoring circuitry for: monitoring one or more PDN connections between the P-GW and the UE on the WLAN; determining that the UE should be in radio resource control (RRC) based on the monitored one or more PDN connections )-connected mode; and sending an inactivity timer reconfiguration (ITR) message to request suspension of an inactivity timer associated with the UE.
