Abstract

The present invention describes an audio system comprising one or more loudspeaker arrays that emit sounds corresponding to one or more pieces of sound program content into associated zones within a listening area. Using parameters of the audio system, zone, user, individual sound program content, and listening area (parameters of the audio system such as loudspeaker arrays and locations of audio sources), one or more beam pattern attributes may be generated. The beam pattern attribute defines the set of beams used to generate audio beams for the channels of sound programming content to be played in each zone. The beam pattern properties may be updated when a change is detected within the listening environment. By adjusting for these changing conditions, the audio system is able to reproduce sound that accurately represents the content of each sound program in each zone.
