Abstract

Methods, systems and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine a CC reference number for dividing a soft buffer when the number of component carriers (CCs) configured for carrier aggregation (CA) operation exceeds a threshold. For example, the CC reference number can be associated with the soft buffer size or the class of UE. The UE may allocate soft buffers based on a comparison between the CC reference number and the number of CCs. The UE may utilize portions of the soft buffer with different CCs based on, for example, the number of CC references and the state of the corresponding Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) process. The UE may store a set of log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) for each HARQ process in a corresponding portion of the soft buffer. In some examples, weighting factors can be used to configure CCs into priority groups for soft buffer partitioning.
