Embodiment Construction

[0055] Such as figure 2 As shown, the device according to the invention mainly comprises two ultrasonic sensors 21 and 22 , capable of being integrated into a system for injecting resin into an injection mold in order to volumetrically homogeneously impregnate the preform inside the mold with resin. figure 2 schematically shows the figure 1 The conventional injection system shown is located in accordance with the principles of the device of the present invention, the conventional injection system comprising, inter alia, a mechanism 13 for injecting resin into a rigid mold 14 through an inlet port at a controlled temperature and a controlled pressure, and for retrieving it through Outlet port Mechanism 15 for resin that exits the mold 14 and has not yet been absorbed by the preform 16 . Mold 14 is, for example, a fixed volume RTM mold.

[0056] According to the invention, the ultrasonic sensor used is a piezoelectric component capable of operating at high temperature, usual...

Abstract

The invention consists of an ultrasonic device for characterising the flow of resin entering and exiting an injection mould (14) during the phase of impregnation, by said resin, of a preform (16) contained in said injection mould. The device comprises two ultrasonic sensors (21, 22) arranged respectively in the vicinity of the inlet port (23) where the resin enters the injection mould (14) and inthe vicinity of the outlet port (24) where the resin exits said mould, each sensor emitting an ultrasonic wave towards the end of the mould in the vicinity of which it is positioned, and receiving theultrasonic wave reflected by the medium. In a preferred embodiment, the device also comprises means for determining the stabilisation of the flow of resin passing through the mould (14) by means of the signals received by the sensors. The invention also consists of a method implementing the device according to the invention in order to determine the completeness of the operation of impregnating, with resin, a preform (16) positioned in an injection mould (14) into which the resin is introduced.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to the general field of fabricating composite structures by impregnating fiber preforms with resin, in particular using the liquid resin infusion (LRI) or resin transfer molding (RTM) process. The invention relates in particular to the monitoring of proper impregnation of preforms with resin. Background technique [0002] The present invention relates to the field of infusion of fiber preforms by LRI or RTM processes. [0003] Industrial injection systems can be simplified to pistons and molds. Dies can be of constant volume (RTM dies with rigid punches and dies) or variable volumes (RTM-VAP or LRI dies with rigid punches and flexible membranes, with or without compensating plates (or "baffles") )). [0004] When it comes to impregnating preforms with resin within a mould, monitoring the completion of the impregnation process requires good control of the amount of resin that is actually impregnating the fibrous preform at a gi...
