An average value in respect of the pixel values within the particular subset which are classified into one of the one or more groups is determined, possibly by means of a weighted mean or a mean of a trimmed set of values in the subset in one of the groups, whereinthe determined average value has a second number of bits greater than the first number of bits. The particular pixel value is then replaced based on the determined average value which is then output.
