Abstract

Tools and techniques are described that are useful for trauma correction of anterior compression, chance, or burst fractures, particularly where the posterior longitudinal ligament and posterior archanatomy is still intact. The described tools can be used to reduce fracture and provide additional distraction for ligamentum taxis through a posterior approach that is compatible with both open and minimally invasive methodologies.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application incorporates the benefit of the filing date of US Patent Application No. 62 / 357,941, filed July 1, 2016, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to medical devices and, more particularly, to the fields of spinal surgery and spinal fixation devices. Such devices are described along with systems and methods for use therewith. Background technique [0004] The spine is critical in human physiology for mobility, support and balance. The spine protects the spinal nerves, which carry commands from the brain to the rest of the body, and sensory information from the nerves below the neck to the brain. Even minor spinal injuries can be debilitating for patients, and major spinal injuries can be catastrophic. Loss of weight bearing or loss of ability to allow flexibility can make the patient immobile. Even in less severe cas...
