The fault root cause analysis method comprises the steps of obtaining a real-time value of a target KPI variable ofthe communication system and real-time values of a plurality of observation variables of the communication system; inputting the real-time values of the plurality of observation variables into a prediction model to obtain a prediction value of a target KPI variable, the prediction model being obtained by training historical data of the communication system by a predetermined algorithm; comparingthe obtained predicted value of the target KPI variable with the real-time value of the target KPI variable; when the performance of the communication system becomes poor, calculating the contributiondegree of each observation variable to the phenomenon that the performance of the system becomes poor; and taking the observation variables of which the contribution degrees are ranked at the first Kbits according to the size as alternative root dependent variables of performance degradation of the communication system, wherein K is a positive integer.
