The invention discloses an improved testing device and method for an internal multi-wire performance of a steel wire rope. The device comprises a workbench, and a steel wire rope strand internal multi-wire spiral contact mechanism, a steel wire rope strand internal multi-wire loading mechanism and a roller loading mechanism all arranged on the workbench. According to the testing device, the multi-wire spiral contact condition in the steel wire rope strand can be realized, and frictional wear between wires in the strand as well as frictional wear between steel layers in the steel wire rope canbe simulated effectively.
