The invention relates to a liquid filtration device (1) having a gravitationally drainable filter chamber which is immovable at least during the discharge of the filter cake. A filter media element (4) is provided comprising: a sheath (4a) having a closed outer perimeter extending vertically in use, the closed outer perimeter defining an interior space to at least laterally confine the filter chamber (3) ; and inlet (4b) and outlet (4c). Also provided are a discharge device (2a) configured to receive filtrate from the filter chamber (3) through the filter media element (4), and a compression device configured to apply compression to the filter chamber (3) external to the filter media element (4) (2b).
