Problems solved by technology

Under pressure the flexible tubing deforms and there is a problem with leaks if the flexible tubing is used alone without the inner tube
[0010] Another disadvantage of flexible downpipes is that it requires a bracket that must be attached to the ceiling, so this may limit the types and configurations of ceilings to which flexible downpipes can be installed
[0011] A system that would allow installers to fabricate and install dry sprinkler equivalents to wet sprinkler systems on site without the use of custom measured and factory-made dry sprinkler components would revolutionize the system Fire industry

Abstract

A thermal trigger assembly for remote mechanical activation of another fire protection system component includes an activation component having a base and a movable member. A biasing member biases the movable member relative to the base from a pre-actuated position to an actuated position. The thermally responsive element maintains the movable member in the pre-actuated position until a predetermined thermodynamic condition is reached, at which point the thermally responsive element loses structural integrity. The flexible connector includes a flexible hollow outer cable housing, one end of which is configured for stationary (preferably fixed) connection with the base. The flexible cable moves within the outer cable housing for sliding movement therein, and the flexible cable has an end configured to be stationary (preferably fixedly) connected to the movable member. When the thermally responsive element loses structural integrity, the flexible cable moves relative to the outer cable housing through movement of the movable member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to fire protection and, more particularly, to actuating components for fire protection systems and valves for fire protection systems. Background technique [0002] The installation and operation of fire sprinkler systems is governed by state-approved codes. As duly noted in US Patent Application Publication No. 2013 / 0199803, dry sprinklers are used in areas that are or may be exposed to freezing conditions, such as in freezers, unheated interior areas, walkways, and the like. In a typical dry piping system, the supply line enters a space where the water in the supply line does not freeze. A dry sprinkler is attached to this supply line and extends into the space where the water would otherwise be frozen. [0003] As further pointed out in Publication No. 2013 / 0199803, a typical configuration of a dry sprinkler consists of a pipe ("downpipe") with a pipe connector at the inlet end of the pipe (which is used to...
