Abstract

The present inventive concept relates to a system for panoramic imaging of a scene. The system comprising: a central camera, a first and a second lateral camera arranged to image the scene in different directions relative to a rotation axis and each having an imaging system including a lens assembly and an image sensor, wherein the first and second lateral cameras are disposed on opposite sides ofthe central camera; a tilting mechanism capable of tilting the system with respect to the rotation axis; and an image processing unit including a stitching function configured to stitch together images captured by the central camera, the first lateral camera, and the second lateral camera to form a panoramic image of the scene, wherein the panoramic image has a virtual horizon, and once the system is tilted, the image processing unit maintains a position of the virtual horizon of the panoramic image in the scene; wherein the imaging systems of the first and second lateral cameras have a larger field of view in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation than the imaging system of the central camera.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a tiltable system for panoramic imaging. Background technique [0002] Panoramic imaging is a well-known technique for producing images with an enlarged horizontal field of view. Typical implementations of panoramic imaging include cameras for capturing multiple images of a scene from different directions. Typically, the camera pans between successive images, and the individual images are aligned and combined into a panorama. [0003] However, when panning the camera to monitor a scene in full view, the problem is that the scene may change during camera movement, leading to artifacts, especially in or near overlapping regions. This often results in panoramas in which features such as vehicles or people are visible in multiple places. Movement in the scene can also cause ghosting artifacts. Another problem in panoramic imaging is that straight lines in the scene may be curved in the panorama describing the scene, which is a ...
