Embodiment Construction

[0017] Embodiments herein provide methods and apparatus for providing privacy-preserving deadlock detection in a real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system, the method and apparatus enabling local computation of liquidity information by users of the RTGS system. The method and apparatus also support multi-party computations, where multiple users of the RTGS system can jointly determine minimum liquidity amounts without any user disclosing their own liquidity information. In this way, the determined minimum liquidity amount can be utilized to detect deadlocks in the RTGS system and still protect the privacy of each user.

[0018] Embodiments disclosed herein have one or more technical effects. In some embodiments, the methods and devices support local computation of liquidity information by users of RTGS systems. This allows each user to perform computations locally without exposing any private information that the user does not wish to share. In some embodiments, the methods a...

Abstract

Disclosed herein are methods, devices, and apparatuses, including computer programs stored on computer-readable media, for detecting deadlocks in a real-time gross settlement system. One of the methods includes: instructing a plurality of users of the real-time gross settlement system to jointly determine lowest post-transfer liquidity information, with the lowest post-transfer liquidity information being jointly determined based on post-transfer liquidity information of each user in the plurality of users in a situation that the users don't make post-transfer liquidity information public thereof to each other; receiving the lowest post-transfer liquidity information jointly determined; and determining whether a deadlock exists based on the lowest post-transfer liquidity information.

Description

technical field [0001] This document relates generally to computer technology, and more particularly to methods and apparatus for deadlock detection in real-time gross settlement systems. Background technique [0002] A Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system is a funds transfer in which funds (e.g., money or securities) are transferred from one party (e.g., a bank) to another party (e.g., another bank) in real time and on a gross basis system. When settlement of a funds transfer occurs, that transfer is generally final and irrevocable. For example, when a payment transaction is not subject to any waiting period, the settlement is real-time. For example, when a payment transaction is settled on a one-to-one basis without bundling or netting with other transactions, the settlement is on a gross basis. RTGS systems can be operated by a country's central bank. [0003] In some cases, one or more parties (such as banks) participating in the RTGS system may not have sufficie...
