The invention provides a method and a system for issuing a message to a set top box. The method comprises the steps that a main message is sent to the set top box corresponding to an object identification code through a unidirectional message platform based on unidirectional transmission; the set top box receives the main message, and sends an auxiliary message acquisition request to a bidirectional message platform capable of receiving and sending messages when detecting that a message identification code corresponding to the main message is a target message identification code; the bidirectional message platform receives the auxiliary message acquisition request and feeds back an auxiliary message to the set top box; and the set top box receives the auxiliary message, and integrates theauxiliary message and the main message into a rich text message for display on a television. According to the invention, the set top box not only can passively receive the main message from the unidirectional message platform, but also can further actively obtain the auxiliary message from the bidirectional message platform based on the main message, thereby ensuring that the set top box can carryout information interaction with an external message platform, and avoiding the occurrence of data overload of a single channel.
