Abstract

The invention discloses a method, equipment and a program product for managing a storage resource pool of a storage system. A plurality of storage devices in a resource pool are divided into at least one group, and a first number of storage devices in an existing group is not higher than an upper threshold of a group threshold range. The sum of the first number and the second number is determined according to the determined second number of storage devices being added to the resource pool. Creating a new packet based on at least a portion of the second number of storage devices according to a determination that a sum of the first number and the second number does not satisfy a packet threshold range; and adding the other part of the storage devices in the second number of storage devices to the existing group. A first portion of storage space in each storage device in a group of shared storage devices selected from the existing groups is allocated to the existing groups, and a second portion of storage space in each storage device in the group of shared storage devices is allocated to the new groups. The utilization rate of storage spaces in a plurality of storage devices in the storage system can be increased.
