Embodiment Construction

[0026] The invention is aimed at the collection of large quantities of rainwater and its purification and filling. However, the rainwater collection device described below may be embodied as a small-sized rainwater collection device for domestic purposes, for example.

[0027] Referring first to Figure 1, the rainwater harvesting arrangement comprises a container 10 supported on a frame 12 above the ground. Typically the container 10 is very large in volume, for example on the order of 5000 to 1000 liters, and is made of food grade material such as high density polyethylene or stainless steel. The container 10 has an outlet 50 controlled by a valve.

[0028] Supported above the container 10 by the cylindrical wall of the container is a water collecting member in the form of a cone 14 which defines a surface for receiving rainwater and directing it towards the truncated tip of the cone 14. Rainwater is diverted, and an annular outlet 16 is formed therein. In an alternative e...

Abstract

Rainwater collection apparatus comprises a tank (10) with a catchment cone (14) above it. Between an outlet (16) at the bottom of the cone and an inlet (20, 24) at the top of the tank is a sediment trap (18) which comprises an annular chamber. An inlet pipe (20) with openings (24) near its upper end extends into the chamber, so that when the chamber overflows in use, the container is filled. Drain valves (28) permit flushing of the sediment trap. The apparatus may form part of a system which includes storage, purification and bottling equipment (32, 34, 36).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for collecting and filling rainwater. Background technique [0002] Rainwater harvesting for drinking, gardening and other domestic purposes is well known. Typically a container is provided which is fed by a downspout which directs water from the pitched roof into the container. The container is provided with a tap to allow the stored water to drain. [0003] The purity of rainwater collected in this way is unreliable and prone to contamination by airborne dirt and dust, plant matter such as leaves and pollen, bugs, bird and animal waste, and industrial pollutants that collect on roofs. [0004] It is an object of the present invention to provide an alternative system for collecting rainwater. Contents of the invention [0005] The invention provides a rainwater collection device, which includes: [0006] a container with an inlet and an outlet; [0007] a water collection member having an outlet and defining a ...
