Embodiment Construction

[0020] Referring to FIG. 1 , the finger oximeter of the present invention is shown to include a lower finger grip portion 2 and an upper finger grip portion 4 . A lower finger pad 6 and an upper finger pad 8 are fitted to the lower finger gripping portion 2 and the upper finger gripping portion 4, respectively. The upper and lower finger grips and their finger pads are configured to conform to the shape of a human toe, such as a finger. Preferably, the lower finger pad 6 and the upper finger pad 8 are opposite each other. Thus, once the respective finger pad 6, 8 is attached to its corresponding finger gripping portion 2, 4, as clearly shown in FIGS. .

[0021] As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the lower finger grip portion 2 is an elongated member having two sides 2s extending from a base portion 2b. A space or void is provided approximately at the center of the base 2b on which the photodetector 18 (D1 in FIG. 4) is located. The front end of the base 2 b is bent so as to form ...

Abstract

A finger oximeter having a fixed first finger grip (4) and a second finger grip (2) movable relative to the fixed first finger grip (4). The finger grip part is mounted to the housing (22), the first finger grip part (4) is fixedly coupled to the top of the housing (22), and the second finger grip part (2) is attached to the housing ( 22) can move vertically. A force is continuously applied against the second finger grip portion (2) to bias the second finger grip portion toward the first finger grip portion (4). The biasing force is sufficiently yielding so that when a finger is inserted into the two finger gripping parts (2, 4), the movable second finger gripping part (2) yields to exert pressure on the entering finger. The biasing force is evenly distributed to the movable second finger grip part (2) in order to realize a floating finger grip suspension system for the finger oximeter.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a finger oximeter, and more particularly to a finger oximeter with a suspension system, which enables the finger clamping part of the oximeter to firmly and evenly clamp a patient's finger. Background technique [0002] There are a large number of known finger oximeters. Typically, these finger oximeters are pulse oximetry units that use a sensor and cooperating photodetectors that detect light emitted by the sensor to determine the oxygen saturation of arterial blood flowing through a subject's finger. In order to illuminate the subject's finger and detect light passing through the subject's finger, prior art finger oximeters typically have a finger grip mechanism that has two finger grip portions. The prior art teaches these finger gripping parts coacting generally hinged to each other by pivots. The following U.S. patents specifically disclose a finger grip portion that opens to receive a finger by means of a hinge...
