Embodiment Construction

[0040] Preferred embodiments of the present invention are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0041] Reference is first made to Figure 1 which is an exploded perspective view of an ink cartridge 1 which includes an enclosure 2 constructed in accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention.

[0042] The ink cartridge 1 is an ink container installed in a device such as an inkjet printer, and stores ink supplied to a print head of the inkjet printer. As shown in FIG. 1 , the ink cartridge 1 includes an ink package 2 containing ink and a casing 12 , which is a substantially flat rectangular parallelepiped.

[0043] The case 12 accommodating the ink pack 2 is composed of an upper part 12a and a lower part 12b, which have substantially the same structure. Both the upper part 12a and the lower part 12b have a bottom wall 9 and four side walls 10 respectively extending from four sides of the bottom wall 9 . The upper part 12a and the lower part...

Abstract

An ink package comprising: an ink bag (5, 105) including a pair of flexible walls which are opposed to each other and accommodating ink, and an ink delivering portion (7, 17, 107) having a passage (6, 106) through which an interior space and an exterior space of the ink bag are held in communication for delivering the ink in the ink bag to the exterior space; wherein the ink delivering portion includes a fixing portion (7a2, 17a2, 107a2) which is fixed to one of opposite ends of the ink bag, and an extending portion (7b, 17b, 107c) which is formed adjacent to the fixing portion so as to extend therefrom into the interior space of the ink bag, the extending portion having a cross sectional area which gradually decreases in a direction from the above-indicated one of the opposite ends of the ink bag toward the other end thereof.

Description

[0001] The present invention is based on Japanese Patent Application Nos. 2003-65574 (filed on March 11, 2003) and 2003-88178 (filed on March 27, 2003), the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0002] In general terms, the present invention relates to an ink package including an ink bag containing ink and made of a flexible material, and to an ink detection device. More specifically, the present invention relates to an ink pack that enables efficient use of ink in an ink bag, and an ink detecting device capable of detecting a so-called "near-empty state" of an ink pack with high precision, in In this state, the ink in the ink bag will be used up soon. More precisely, the ink in the ink bag has been reduced to a predetermined amount, which is lower than the state where the ink is completely used up (at this time, the printing operation is impossible. ) or the ink volume in a state where the printing operation should be prohibited is larger b...
