Problems solved by technology

[0009] Furthermore, articulation elements with two fixed cardan joints arranged in a so-called "W" configuration have the disadvantage that the locking angle (angle de brisure) formed between the axes of the input shaft and the output shaft ) deviates from zero angle, the loss of torque transmission is large

Embodiment Construction

[0036] A drive / steer axle or rigid axle 1 is shown in FIG. 1 , only about half of which is shown in FIG. 1 . The axle is intended to be mounted on a motor vehicle of the "all wheel drive" type, such as an industrial vehicle or an agricultural tractor.

[0037] The drive / steer axle 1 is provided with a drive wheel 2 at each end and is adapted to simultaneously bear the chassis of the vehicle against each wheel, to support the directional control members 4 of said drive wheels, and to maintain the alignment between these drive wheels. The distance between them is constant, and the driving torque is transmitted to each of the driving wheels 2.

[0038] The axle 1 includes on its common part a differential assembly 6 arranged in an axle housing 7 and adapted to cause the drive wheels 2 to rotate at different speeds on bends, as is known in the art . The differential assembly 6 itself will not be described in detail below.

[0039] The axle 1 includes two transmission lines 8 wh...

Abstract

The invention concerns an axle ( 1 ) comprising a differential ( 6 ), two transmission lines ( 8 ) from the differential and adapted each to drive a drive wheel ( 2 ), members ( 4 ) for directional control of the drive wheels ( 2 ), each transmission line ( 8 ) including an input shaft ( 10 ) connected to the differential ( 6 ), an output shaft ( 12 ) connected to the corresponding drive wheel ( 2 ), a pivot ( 20 ) with axis oriented transversely to each of the input ( 10 ) and output ( 12 ) shafts, and a double torque transmitting joint ( 30 ) between the input shaft ( 10 ) and the output shaft ( 12 ). Said double-joint comprises two elementary joints ( 30 A, 30 B) axially connected to each other along a double-joint axis and including each an elementary break center. Each shaft ( 10, 12 ) defines a fixed position, along its axis (X-X, Y-Y), of the elementary break center of the corresponding joint ( 30 A, 30 B). Additionally, one at least of the two elementary joints ( 30 A, 30 B) is a joint freely sliding along the double-joint axis.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a motor vehicle drive / steer axle of the type defined in the preamble of claim 1 . Background technique [0002] Axles of this type are used in the field of motor vehicles with all-wheel drive, such as industrial vehicles, agricultural tractors or "4x4" station wagons. Vehicles of this type include at least one such drive / steer axle, often called a "rigid axle", which is provided with a differential and which transmits drive torque simultaneously from the differential case to each wheel provided at each end of it , and at the same time implement the steering angle limit lock when the vehicle must turn. More precisely, this driving / steering axle consists of: [0003] - an axle element which is used as a beam and comprises a central housing which houses a differential assembly and its supporting bearings, the axle element comprising an extension consisting of two transversely flared tubes , each flared tube is located on each s...
