Embodiment Construction

[0028] Fig. 1 shows a block diagram of an exemplary prior art broadcast system, generally designated 100, including an exemplary Emergency Broadcast System (EBS, generally designated 101), in suitable association with the principles of the present invention. The EBS 101 is provided for illustration purposes only, it being understood that special events (or "live alerts") may include emergency broadcasts in relation to broadcast content streams, as well as any other local, regional, national or international events. For this reason, and in accordance with the principles of the present invention, the phrase "special event" as used herein is broadly defined as any public alert and emergency warning, local, regional, national or international event (e.g., political, economic, social, governmental, etc.) , or any event of interest to users, groups of users, or types of users.

[0029] Exemplary broadcast system 100 also includes a public switched telephone network (PSTN) / Internet 1...

Abstract

The present invention discloses a system for monitoring broadcast content and generating a notification signal as a function of user level, and a method for realizing the above work. According to an exemplary embodiment, a monitoring system capable of identifying special event content within a plurality of broadcast content streams each having a detectable content attribute is presented. The surveillance system is operable to: (i) sense content changes within at least one of a plurality of broadcast content streams as a function of detectable content attributes, (ii) detect broadcast content streams for particular events as sensed content changes , and (iii) selectively generate a notification signal as a function of the content of the particular event detected and the user level.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to systems for monitoring broadcast content, and more particularly to systems for monitoring broadcast content and generating notification signals as a function of user level, and methods for doing so. [0002] Public alarm and emergency warning systems provide citizens with audible and / or visual signals to warn them of the presence or imminent danger. These systems may include sirens and radio or television broadcasts, with the aim of informing as many people as possible as quickly as possible. [0003] To improve alert / warning coverage, the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) was created during the Cold War. During national, state, and local emergencies, wide-area emergency messages can be sent to recipients in emergency areas via AM and FM radio stations, as well as broadcast and cable television stations. In the case of an emergency message sent via television, the emergency warning signal may include an audible...
