Problems solved by technology

[0006] This known structure also has the disadvantage that the vibration-damping properties of the air can only be varied by adjusting the air pressure in the cavity containing the air, and even then the range of achievable vibration-damping properties is limited
Also, it is difficult and costly to produce a sealed chamber containing air at a predetermined pressure

Embodiment Construction

[0041] Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a power tool 1 such as a drill or a jigsaw comprises a housing 2 defining a bore 3 surrounded on one side by a handle 4 containing a power tool for actuating an output element such as a drill or jigsaw. Motor (not shown) for saw blade (not shown).

[0042] The housing 2 is generally formed of a durable plastic material as is well known to those skilled in the art, and is provided with a recessed portion 5 on the substantially smooth upper surface of the handle 4 in which a A recess 6 containing an actuating switch (not shown) for switching the tool 1 on and off. The housing 2 is provided with a ventilation hole 7 capable of cooling the inside of the housing 2 at one end of the groove portion 5 .

[0043] The flexible sheet 8 is produced using a suitable method, such as moulding, using a thin layer of thermoplastic elastomer material, such as polyurethane, with a higher coefficient of friction than the material used to manufacture the housi...

Abstract

A handle assembly for a power tool 1 comprises a housing 2 defining a handle 4 and housing a motor for actuating an output member of the tool, such as a drill bit or jigsaw blade. The handle assembly comprises at least one flexible sheet 8 adapted to be mounted to a surface of the handle of the power tool and having a series of protrusions 10 adapted to be engaged by a hand of a user of the tool. The protrusions 10 retain one or more blister packs (not shown) containing at least one vibration damping gel material between the flexible sheet 8 and the surface of the handle 4.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to handle assemblies for tools, and more particularly, but not exclusively, to handle assemblies having friction grip and vibration dampening properties for use on power tools having a motor driven output shaft. Background technique [0002] Known power tools such as electric drills generate a large amount of vibration in which the drill bit is rotated by an output shaft which in turn is rotated by an electric motor, which in some cases limits the length of time the tool can be used continuously. Moreover, the housings of such tools are typically made of durable plastic materials, making it difficult for the user of the tool to maintain a grip during continued use of the tool. [0003] US6308378 discloses a gripping structure of a power tool handle. In this structure, the side of the handle is provided with a friction gripping area, and each side of the handle has a plurality of softer material and harder Alternating materials c...
