Embodiment Construction

[0032] A transport means, such as an ISO container 30, that may be transported inside an aircraft is shown in Figures 1-11. The airborne ISO container 30 extends between a first longitudinal end 32 and a second longitudinal end 34 and a first transverse end 36 and a second transverse end 38 . The term "container" as used herein also encompasses the term "shelter". The ISO container 30 includes a base 40, such as Figure 10 shown. The base 40 includes a first end rail 42 at the first longitudinal end 32 and a second end rail 44 at the second longitudinal end 34, the second end rail 44 being connected to the first end rail 44. The end rails 42 are spaced apart and generally parallel. The base 40 also includes a first side rail 46 at the first lateral end 36 and a second side rail 48 at the second lateral end 38 . Each side rail is elongated and generally rectilinear. A plurality of support members 50 extend laterally between side rails 46 and side rails 48 . The support me...

Abstract

A transport device such as an ISO container that is adapted to be transported by air or surface transportation. The transport device includes a base, a plurality of movable ISO comer blocks movably coupled to the base, and a plurality of adjustment mechanisms. Each adjustment mechanism is adapted to couple a respective comer block to the base and to selectively move the comer block with respect to the base between an air transport position, wherein the bottom surface of the comer block does not extend beyond the bottom surface of the base, and a surface transport position wherein the bottom surface of the comer block is located below the bottom surface of the base. The base includes a plurality of roller plates that form the bottom surface of the base and that are adapted to engage rollers of an aircraft cargo handling system. The transport device also includes detent rails that are removably attached to the base. The detent rails includes tabs and detents that are adapted to cooperate with an aircraft cargo handling system to releasably secure the transport device in place within an aircraft.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application US 60 / 519,977, filed November 14,2003. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to an internal air transportable transport unit, such as an ISO container, which can be directly interfaced with the standard International Organization for Standardization (ISO) container handling system used in aircraft internal cargo handling systems and in truck, train and ship cargo transport. butt. Background technique [0004] ISO containers must comply with specific ISO transport requirements for these modes of transport, trucks, trains and ships. Current ISO shipping containers cannot interface directly with traditional air cargo handling systems. An aircraft interior cargo handling system that relies on a container being transported has a flat bottom adapted to roll on an internal roller con...
