Embodiment 1
[0023] see now Figure 4 Assume that the Bluetooth ad hoc network 400 includes the following devices: a TV 401 , a personal digital assistant (PDA) 402 that can take pictures, and a portable hard disk 403 . As long as the devices are within 10 meters of each other, they can communicate. To create a "sensing area", short-range sensing technology in the form of a tag (reader) is added to the device. Coded labels are what enable the device to be uniquely identified. Tag readers can only read these tags if they are within a short distance (~10cm) of each other. In order to display the picture saved by the PDA 402 on the TV screen 401, the user only needs to place the PDA 402 close to the TV 401 so that the picture is displayed on the TV 401. Likewise, in order to display the audio / video content of the portable hard disk 403 on the TV 401, the portable hard disk 403 may be placed close to the TV 401.
Embodiment 2
[0025] see now Figure 5 Assume that the 802.11 network 500 includes the following devices: a TV 501 with a tag reader and two portable MP3 players 502.1 502.2 each with tags. If both audio devices 502.1 502.2 are within the sensing area of the TV 501, the TV's UI automatically generates a playlist combining all their music.
Embodiment 3
[0027] see now Image 6 Assume that the Bluetooth ad hoc network 600 includes the following devices: a printer 601 with a tag reader, and a PDA 602 with a tag capable of taking pictures. By bringing the phone 602 near the printer 601, the PDA 602 senses the printer 601. As a result, phone 602 suggests printing the currently "active" file (eg, the selected picture). The user simply accepts and the picture is printed on the printer 601 .
