Database computer system using logical logging to extend recovery

This invention concerns a database computer system and method for making applications recoverable from system crashes. The application state (i.e., address space) is treated as a single object which can be atomically flushed in a manner akin to flushing individual pages in database recovery techniques. To enable this monolithic treatment of the application, executions performed by the application are mapped to logical loggable operations that can be posted to the stable log. Any modifications to the application state are accumulated and the application state is periodically flushed to stable storage using an atomic procedure. The application recovery integrates with database recovery, and effectively eliminates or at least substantially reduces the need for check pointing applications. In addition, optimization techniques are described to make the read, write, and recovery phases more efficient. Atomic flush sets, whether generated from cyclic flush dependencies or otherwise, can be broken apart. This enables an ordered flushing sequence of first flushing a first object and then flushing a second object, rather than having to flush both the first and second objects simultaneously and atomically.

System and method for timing recovery in a discrete multi-tone system

A system and method for performing pilot tone based timing recovery in a communication system using the discrete multi-tone (DMT) modulation. In DMT modulation, interference is introduced to the phase of the pilot tone in the transmitter due to the cyclic prefix. Broadly, a receiver is configured to detect and apply a phase offset to the pilot tone in a phase locked-loop upon recognition of far-end signal segments during transceiver initialization. The output of the phase locked-loop is then used to control the timing of the analog-to-digital (A / D) and digital-to-analog (D / A) conversions. In alternative embodiments, the receiver is configured to detect and remove the cyclic prefix from the far-end signal either prior to, or after, time-domain equalization. In a similar manner, the resulting signal stream is applied to the input of the timing recovery phase locked-loop (PLL). The output of the PLL is used to control the timing of the A / D and D / A converters. In a further alternative embodiment, a phase error on the pilot tone is estimated in the frequency domain. The phase error is then applied to the input of a modified timing recovery PLL to reduce phase interference on the pilot tone.

The improved biased proportional guidance method in the invention can effectively solve problems in guidance control under the condition of multiple constraints by location, velocity and attitude during rocket recovery; the guidance law for a vertical landing phase employs aerodynamic deceleration and tail-phase short-time main-power deceleration, so no impact is exerted on the carrying capacity of the rocket in an in-orbit flying phase; and at the same time, proportional guidance has better adaptability to various non-guidance deviations.

Systems and methods for controlling a legged robot using a two-phase disturbance response strategy

Systems and methods are presented that enable a legged robot to maintain its balance when subjected to an unexpected force. In the reflex phase, the robot withstands the immediate effect of the force by yielding to it. In one embodiment, during the reflex phase, the control system determines an instruction that will cause the robot to perform a movement that generates a negative rate of change of the robot's angular momentum at its centroid in a magnitude large enough to compensate for the destabilizing effect of the force. In the recovery phase, the robot recovers its posture after having moved during the reflex phase. In one embodiment, the robot returns to a statically stable upright posture that maximizes the robot's potential energy. In one embodiment, during the recovery phase, the control system determines an instruction that will cause the robot to perform a movement that increases its potential energy.

Natural forces power system

The two forces used are gravity and the atmospheric pressure. Gravity initiates the power phase by causing the water to fall from the elevated sealed water tank 10 to turn the turbine 32. The water lowers to 33.95 feet above ground level within the sealed water tank 10. A vacuum forms above the water. The water flows from the turbine into the elevated open water tank 46 to the level whereby its water outlet valve 26B opens. This affords a passage back into the elevated sealed water tank 10, through the check valve 40 and the manual shut-off valve 42. This initiates the recovery phase. The atmospheric pressure of 14.7 psi on the elevated open water tank 46 forces the water back into the sealed water tank 10 to relieve the vacuum. This pressure is capable to move the water up to 33.95 feet. Here it has only to move it up to 26.95 feet, realizing a 20.6 percent reserve force. With the water level again attaining maximum height in the sealed water tank 10, it is again released to repeat the cycle.

The predicted value of depth of anesthesia represents degree of the conscious state or the depth of anesthesia for the one being tested. The higher the predicted depth of anesthesia value, the more conscious the one being tested is, i.e., in a shallower depth of anesthesia. On the other hand, the lower the predicted depth of anesthesia value, the less conscious the one being tested is, i.e., in a deeper depth of anesthesia.
