AI Technical Summary

Benefits of technology

This technology helps identify specific areas within an image by dividing it into different parts based upon their importance or relevance to human perceptions. By doing this, images with clearer edge detail may appear more accurate than traditional methods while still maintaining high quality reconstruction performance at reasonable cost.

Problems solved by technology

Technological Problem addressed in this patents relates to compressing composite images that contain both smoothly varying areas called text characters and rough texture portions caused by imperfections like unevenness around borders between different parts of the image. Existing algorithms either require significant time or result in severe rings during processing due to their lack of precision.

Embodiment Construction

[0031] The present invention will be further described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and specific embodiments.

[0032] Fig. 1 shows a flow chart of image compression according to the present invention.

[0033] In step 101, the input mixed graphics are first divided into non-overlapping blocks of the same size. The size of the specific blocks can be flexibly set according to the fineness of the algorithm processing. The commonly used block is 16×16.

[0034] In step 102, the non-overlapping blocks of the same size generated by step 101 are classified according to their color and texture features. Usually, the color of the text / graphic information is simple and the texture changes drastically, while the color of the image information is rich and the texture changes relatively gently. Therefore, according to the color type N in the block color and the distribution of the gradient value G(x, y) of each pixel p(x, y), the blocks are divided into three cate...

Abstract

The invention discloses a hybrid image compressing method based on block classification. In the invention, blocks are divided into text/ image block, natural image block and hybrid block according to different features of text/image area and natural image area of original images in the aspect of color and texture; then a compression mode in which palette coding, Hextile coding and LZW coding are combined is used in the text/ image block, a JPEG lossy compression mode is used in the natural image while the algorithm of the combination of the two modes is used in the hybrid block. The invention has the advantages that based on the block classification method, the text/image area and the natural image area can be divided up accurately, and that the blocks are respectively encoded can keep rather acuminate edge of the text/image block so as to enhance visual effect on the basis of ensuring higher compression efficiency and upgrade the peak signal to noise ratio of reconstructed images; the complexity of the algorithm is lower.
