In the method, when being required to be switched, the mobile station broadcasts an inquiry burst to the surrounding cells which report the signal quality of the received inquiry burst to a base station controller which queues the signal quality of the inquiry burst; the cell corresponding to the inquiry burst with the best signal quality is the target cell to which the mobile station is to be switched; the base station controller informs the target cell of preparing to receiveand switch the mobile station and consults with the target cell a channel to be used after the mobile station is switched; after that, the base station controller informs the mobile station to switchto the selected target cell through a source cell, and the mobile station carries out a service transmission in the target cell by the channel which is consulted by the base station controller and the target cell. By adopting the mobile station switching method of the invention, under the assist of the base station controller, the mobile station can achieve the handoff faster and more reliably, effectively solves the problem of long switching time and reduces the switching interruption rate.
