Abstract

The invention discloses a method for notifying multicast source between PIM and MSDP boundary routers with flexible and simple networking application. A cross-domain multicast is implemented by adopting the method and when RP and MSDP are disposed in different devices, the RP and the MSDP can be notified of current active information with each other. The method comprises that the PIM notifies multicast source to the MSDP, and the MSDP notifies multicast source to the PIM. The PIM wherein notifies multicast source to the MSDP by a method that the MSDP transmits an active source inquire to an RP; and if effective multicast source exists in local area, the RP constitutes an inquire response message containing information of the multicast source and replies the message to the MSDP. The MSDP notifies multicast source to the PIM by a method that the MSDP transmits an active source registration message to an RP in the same domain according to new active source message in active source buffer; and if corresponding multicast is added on the RP in the domain and no corresponding multicast source/multicast source pair exists, and a PIM (S, G) additional message is transmitted to the active source.
