[0017] The present invention provides a sparkling wine glass that enhances the aroma of wine while swirling it.

[0018] For example, when tasting wine, by swirling the glass, the sommelier shakes the wine slightly before tasting to intensify the bouquet of the wine. The shaking is achieved by swirling the wine glass approximately in a horizontal plane and applying a substantially circular motion. This movement causes the wine to be rippled up the sides of the glass. When the swirl stops, the wine stabilizes. The movement of the wine's surface relative to the air in the glass enhances the emission of aromas into the air, which in turn increases the aroma perceived by the sommelier when tasting the wine. The present invention can make wine froth more than ordinary wine glasses.

Abstract

A wine glass having a bowl with a protrusion on the inner surface of the bottom end. The wine glass may aerate and enhance the bouquet of wine contained therein while providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The protrusion may also include a hole to allow wine to flow therethrough for further aeration.
