Embodiment Construction

[0025] figure 1 The kitchen appliance 10 in is a hand-held food processor commonly known as a stick mixer. The food processor has a base unit 11 having a housing 17 adapted to be held by a user during operation and a plurality of detachable utensils 15 (only one shown). Housing 17 houses motor assembly 12 including motor 18 and gearbox 20 . The motor assembly 12 provides two outputs, a high speed output formed by the main shaft of the motor, and a low speed output formed by the gear shaft or output main shaft of the gearbox. The motor assembly 12 is attached to the housing 17 by means of a mounting plate 25 which is secured to the outer end of the gearbox 20 . The base unit 11 has a cover 26 for sealing the mounting plate 25 .

[0026] The appliance 15 is releasably and detachably attached to the output of the base unit 11 by means of an adapter 30 . The adapter 30 has a free end 31 adapted to receive the utensil 15 . The adapter 30 is manually movable between a first pos...

Abstract

The invention provides a kitchen utensil (10) which is provided with an exchangeable apparatus (15). The kitchen utensil (10) is provided with a substrate unit (11) for accommodating a motor component (12). The motor component (12) provides coaxial output parts which run at two different speeds. An adapter (30) which is used for adapting the apparatus (15) to the substrate unit (11) can move between a first position and a second position. Therefore, the apparatus is selectively adapted to the high-speed output part or the low-speed output part.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a kitchen appliance, such as a hand-held food processor, and more particularly to a manual selector for selecting a desired output. Background technique [0002] In some kitchen appliances, such as food processors, it is desirable to be able to select different operating speeds. This is usually accomplished using electronic controllers, however, the speed changes using such controllers are relatively limited. To overcome this limitation, it has been necessary to use two motors, but this is impractical for hand-held devices, especially for food processors commonly known as stick blenders. Alternatively, a gearbox may be used to provide a second output with step reduction. One such proposal exists in commonly assigned and co-pending application, which is hereby incorporated by reference. In this proposal, two outputs are arranged coaxially and the appliance is adapted to be fitted to only one of the outputs. [0003] ...
