Abstract

The invention discloses a medical device including an extravascular system for communication of fluid with a vascular system, the extravascular system including a vascular access device which has an access port; a fluid path in the extravascular system; and a fluid flow director in communication with the fluid path, wherein the fluid flow director encourages movement of stagnant fluid near the access port within the fluid path of the extravascular system. The fluid flow director is an arch located beneath the access port of the vascular access device. The fluid flow director has a duckbilled-shaped diaphragm.
