Embodiment Construction

[0041] Referring now to the accompanying drawings, and more particularly to figure 1 , wherein a sensor arrangement according to an embodiment is shown generally at 10 . The sensor device 10 has a sensor element 12 , a structural element 14 , a fastening element 16 and an interface element 18 .

[0042] The sensing element 12 is provided to monitor the load of a structural member, such as a solid structure or a mechanism part, or the stress it is subjected to, or the degree of deformation thereof.

[0043] Structural element 14 is provided to support sensing element 12 as it performs its task of monitoring load, pressure, deformation, etc., as well as supporting other accessories.

[0044] The fixing element 16 serves to fix the sensor device 10 on the surface to be monitored. The fastening element 16 also interconnects the sensor element 12 and the structural element 14 .

[0045] The interface element 18 is the interface between the sensor device 10 and a control system, ...

Abstract

A sensor device comprises a sensing component adapted to be connected to a monitoring system to send signals associated with deformation of a structural member. An adhesive is adapted to bond the sensing component to a surface of a structural member. A tape has at least one adhesive surface adapted to be adhered to the surface of a structural member to be monitored, with the sensing component being positioned between the tape and the surface of the structural member. The sensor device is used in combination with a monitoring system.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 915,488, filed May 2, 2007. technical field [0003] The present application relates generally to sensors for monitoring structures and in particular, but not exclusively, to deformations such as caused by deflection, load, pressure or inclination. Background technique [0004] Sensors of all types are installed on structures to measure deformations such as and tilt parameters. [0005] For example, for material transport in warehouses, fork lift vehicles are often used. A forklift has forks that are used to lift a load. The forks are mounted on vertically extending masts. One problem with such forklift vehicles is that the elevator can become unstable when the extended columns support the load. Another problem is when the center of gravity of the load is not on the forks (eg the load is towards the tip of the forks). More specifi...
