Problems solved by technology

However, concerns with chemical controls center on the risk of environmental hazards associated with their use
Chemical poisoning methods for pest control have the advantage that multiple doses can be applied to multiple animals over a period of time, but chemical poisoning can lead to contamination of the environment with chemical residues, sublethal doses, and secondary poisoning

Embodiment Construction

[0073] Referring to Figure 1, a preferred embodiment of the device 1 of the present invention is shown in plan perspective, mounted to a tree in a vertical orientation. exist Figure 1a Device 1 is installed on tree 2 in and 1b. Device 1 comprises a container 3, a shutter 4 ( Figure 1a partly unnoticeable), a closing device 5, and an emptying device 6.

[0074] exist Figure 1a In , device 1 is shown in an operational configuration, while in Figure 1b In , the device 1 is shown in a working configuration. In the working configuration, the device is configured to trap pests.

[0075] The container 3 has a substantially elastic tubular elongated body. In a preferred embodiment, the body is made of a resilient hard plastic material or metal capable of withstanding vacuum pressures between -20 kPa and -95 kPa (100 kPa is 1 atmosphere).

[0076] The device 1 can be adapted to be attached to various surfaces. The container 1 comprises a curved outwardly facing side 7a and ...

Abstract

The invention provides a pest control device which includes a container having at least one open end and a closed end, a sealing means adapted to substantially close an open end of the container, a closing means associated with the sealing means and adapted to substantially close the open end when activated to retain a vacuum and trap a pest within the container, and an evacuation means to evacuate the container of sufficient oxygen to cause death to the trapped pest. Also provided is a novel sensor device for sensing the presence of a pest and activating the pest control device.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a pest control device. The invention also relates to improved methods of killing pests. Background technique [0002] Throughout this specification the term "pest" will be referred to. The term is to be understood as unwanted vertebrates or invertebrates which may be harmful to the environment or natural flora and fauna. Target pests suitable for the present invention include, but are not limited to, rodents, birds, insects, opossums, feral cats, and the like. [0003] Pest control devices are broadly divided into three categories, namely, mechanical traps, chemical or fumigant poisons, and biological controls. [0004] There are many devices available for pest control. For example, U.S. Patent Application No. 2006 / 0156617 entitled "Snap Trap Enclosure for Trapping and Killing Rodents" discloses a typical type of trap comprising a spring-loaded The leg which, when the trap is activated, crushes or stabs the trapped...
