Problems solved by technology

For example, with known respirator types that fit and secure from behind the wearer's head, doing so can sometimes be difficult, especially when wearing protective headgear such as a helmet
Furthermore, with known types of mounting arrangements behind the head, it is generally not possible to obtain sufficient adjustability for a correct fit thereof, especially in a convenient and reliable manner

Embodiment Construction

[0048] Figure 1 to Figure 8An exemplary embodiment of a respirator 10 made in accordance with the principles of the present invention to facilitate fit and adjustment on a wearer's head is shown. Such as image 3 and Figure 4 As shown, the wearer 12 can conveniently put the respirator 10 on and off the wearer's head 14, even while wearing protective headgear 15 (eg, helmet 15, etc.). This is highly advantageous as the user does not need to remove the protective headgear during installation and removal of the respirator. In addition, respirator 10 is easily adjustable to accommodate wearers of different head sizes for providing a secure yet comfortable fit that enhances safety.

[0049] Figure 1 to Figure 8 The respirator 10 can be a filtering mask 10 similar to that described in commonly assigned US Patent No. 7,028,689, which is incorporated herein. Filtering mask 10 has a cup-shaped mask portion 16 to which an exhalation valve 18 may be attached using any suitable te...

Abstract

A respirator (10) having a harness along with a method of making and fitting the same are disclosed. The respirator (10) includes a mask body (16); and a harness (30) attached to the mask body (16). The harness (30) comprises: a first fastening strap securement mechanism (34a) that is disposed on a first side of the mask body (16); a second fastening strap securement mechanism (34b) that is disposed on a second side of the mask body (16) opposing the first side; and a fastening strap (32) attached to one of the first and second fastening strap securement mechanisms (34a, 34b).

Description

Background technique [0001] The present invention generally relates to respirators having flexible fastening straps or similar straps. More particularly, the present invention relates to respirators including harnesses that facilitate adapting and securing the respirator to the wearer, and methods of making, and fitting the same. [0002] It is well known to provide respirators with flexible fastening straps for mounting and securing them to the wearer's head. There are a wide variety of ways to achieve this. An exemplary method includes providing a respirator having a mask body with a pair of fastening straps that can be secured to the sides of a wearer's head by pulling the straps together and tying opposite ends. later. Still other methods use elastic threads to fit over the wearer's head. Another approach, however, provides fasteners, such as clasps, hooks, or other similar mechanisms, on the free ends of the strap / wire so that the free ends can be releasably secured t...
