Abstract

The present invention provides a method and device for location notification using location context information. In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a mobile device automatically generates location context information indicating points of interest in the vicinity of the mobile device. For example, if the user of the mobile device is at home, the location context information indicates that the user is at home, not just latitude / longitude information corresponding to the location of home. In order to communicate the location of the mobile device in a meaningful way that does not require a map, the mobile device displays location contextual information. Alternatively or additionally, the mobile device provides the location context information to at least one other device. This is used to inform other users of the mobile device's location in a meaningful way that does not require a map.
