Abstract

An insertion section of an endoscope, configured in such a manner that an actuator unit and a heater unit are used in combination with an imaging unit, wherein the actuator unit uses a shape memory member, which is deformable according to temperature, in order to drive a movable optical member of the imaging unit and wherein the heater unit uses a heating member in order to heat a tip optical member of the imaging unit. The configuration allows the actuator unit of the insertion section of an endoscope to be appropriately operated. An axially extending insertion section of an endoscope is provided with: an imaging unit (38) for capturing an observation image, the imaging unit (38) having an optical axis (O) and being provided with a tip optical member (44) mounted to the tip of the imaging unit (38) and also with a movable optical member (51) movable relative to the tip optical member (44); an actuator unit (56) for driving the movable optical member (51), the actuator unit (56) having a shape memory member (58) deformable according to temperature; and a heater unit (62) having a heating member (63) for heating the tip optical member (44), the heater unit (62) being, when viewed in the axial direction of the insertion section (21), located opposite the actuator unit (56) across the optical axis (O) of the imaging unit (38).
