Embodiment

[0272] The effect of the addition of deinking paper sludge on sugar yield was tested. Deinking paper sludge was added to the washed pretreated corn stover (PCS) slurry prior to hydrolysis. Sugar content was measured 72 and 96 hours after the start of hydrolysis.

[0273]Cellulase preparation A: Cellulase preparation A is a fusion protein comprising a polypeptide having cellulolytic enhancing activity (GH61A) disclosed in WO 2005 / 074656; beta-glucosidase (disclosed in WO 2008 / 057637) and a cellulolytic composition derived from a cellulolytic enzyme preparation of Trichoderma reesei. Cellulase preparation A is disclosed in co-pending International Application No. PCT / US2008 / 065417.

[0274] Deinked paper sludge was obtained from SP Newsspring Co., Dublin, GA, USA (NPSS). The enzyme used for hydrolysis was cellulase preparation A. It was added in an amount of 6 mg enzyme protein / g cellulose. NPSS was added to the washed PCS slurry with mixing, and the mixture was hydrolyzed ...

Abstract

A method for producing a fermentation product from a lignocellulose-containing material comprises pre-treating the lignocellulose-containing material; introducing paper mill sludge to the pre-treated lignocellulose-containing material; exposing the pre-treated lignocellulose-containing material to an effective amount of hydrolyzing enzyme; and adding a fermenting organism to produce a fermentation product. In an embodiment, the paper mill sludge comprises deinking paper sludge.

Description

technical field [0001] Disclosed are methods for producing fermentation products from lignocellulose-containing material, and more particularly, increasing the production of fermentation products from lignocellulose-containing material by treating the material with paper mill sludge efficient method. Background technique [0002] Lignocellulose-containing material, ie, biomass, can be used to produce fermentable sugars, which in turn can be used to produce fermentation products such as renewable fuels and chemicals. Lignocellulose-containing materials have a complex structure of cellulose fibers wrapped in lignin and hemicellulose sheaths. Producing a fermentation product from lignocellulose-containing material includes pretreating, hydrolyzing, and fermenting the lignocellulose-containing material. [0003] Conversion of lignocellulose-containing material to renewable fuels and chemicals often involves physical, biological, chemical and / or (using enzymes) enzymatic treatm...
