Problems solved by technology

Display size limitations make legible rendering of full-size documents a challenge
[0004] Typically, a miniaturized version of a document reduces the entire document to a very small size, retaining most of the original content at a fraction of the original size, such that the content of the document is illegible and unreadable, and thus cannot be provided for users to navigate the document or the genuine ability to discern relevant content or information from a document
It is a challenge to provide a user-friendly summary view of a document with readable and recognizable content when the entire document is reduced to a miniature size image used to present a visual overview of the document

Embodiment Construction

[0014] As briefly mentioned before, the summary view can present a miniaturized overview of the document to the user on the user interface, enabling the user to read and identify the content of the document. The document outline view maintains the basic formatting and layout of the document and preserves select essential and related elements in the document, including headings, bulleted lists, tables, images, the first sentence of each paragraph (which shades other text and elements). In the following detailed description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof and which show by way of illustration various specific embodiments or examples. These aspects may be combined, other aspects may be utilized, and structural changes may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention. Accordingly, the following detailed description is not intended to be limiting, and the scope of the invention is defined by the appended claims and th...

Abstract

The invention discloses providing summary view of documents. As part of a document summary view system, a miniaturized version of a document is provided that presents a summary overview of the document over a user interface, enabling a user to easily read and distinguish the contents of the document. The summary view may preserve a basic format and layout of a document and may retain the core elements within the document including headings, bulleted lists, tables, images, and / or the first sentence of each paragraph, and obscure any remaining text and elements.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of document view display, in particular to a technology for providing a summary view of a document. Background technique [0002] Viewing a document on a user interface generally involves displaying the complete full-length document for viewing and navigating by the user. Some known document viewing systems involve the use of reduced-size or miniaturized versions (also referred to as thumbnails) of documents so that multiple pages of one or more documents can be displayed in a user interface display. A reduced-sized image or miniaturized version of a document enables an application to render a set of documents as an array of small images so that a user can visually identify a document and navigate between multiple documents by viewing the miniaturized version. [0003] Another environment where a reduced or miniaturized version of a document may be used is a smaller size display. As smaller form-factor compu...
