Embodiment Construction
[0047]The described embodiments are intended to provide a connection between metallic and composite components using interference fit fasteners. To date, industry standards have utilized interference fit fasteners in conjunction with sleeves when including interference fit fasteners with composite materials. However, as further described herein, current composite formulations provide robustness in this regard, and in the described embodiments no sleeves are used. Specifically, the collected data indicate that if the interference fit fastener is provided with a smooth coating, and the holes in the metallic material and the composite material are aligned, no serious damage will be done to the composite material. This process includes the "pull through" technique where a pulling device is used to "pull" the interference fit fastener through a hole in the material. In contrast to the "push through" technique, there is a counter force on the outlet side of the hole by the pulling ...
