The present invention is generally characterized in an angled rotary tissue cutting instrument including an outer blade assembly, having a rigid tubular member with proximal and distal portions connected by a bead, and an inner blade assembly rotatably disposed within the outer blade assembly and including a tubular drive shaft at a proximal end, a cutting tip at a distal end, and a flexible coupling disposed between the drive shaft and the cutting tip. The drive shaft and cutting tip include neck portions which are disposed telescopically within proximal and distal ends of the coupling. The flexible coupling is formed of a flexible polymeric material, and each of the neck portions includes a lateral opening defining a predetermined flow path for the polymeric material during fabrication so that the flexible polymeric coupling includes flow portions extending into the openings in the neck portions of the drive shaft and the cutting tip to form permanent, interlocking mechanical joints therewith capable of receiving and transmitting torque.

An insulating beverage or food container or sleeve is produced with a foam layer disposed on an inner surface of a paper stock. A polymer shrink film layer is arranged in a position along an inside surface of the beverage container. The foam layer is sandwiched between the polymer shrink film layer and the paper stock and decreases the energy transfer between the beverage and the user's hands allowing the user to hold onto the container for an extended period of time without causing user discomfort or pain. The polymer shrink film layer is produced from a shrink film polymer having a percent shrink in the range of 30% or less, and more particularly a percent shrink range of 5 to 10%.

A low odor grip is disclosed for a handle of a hand-held implement such as a sports implement or a manual or electric tool which is essentially free of disagreeable odors, which can be installed and quickly shrunk into a tight vapor resistant grip within a matter of a few minutes rather than requiring extended periods of time, and can be installed without the need for any application of heat or use of special tools, equipment or materials. The present device is therefore easy to install, merely sliding over the handle while in dilated state and then allowed to shrink and set by evaporation of the solvent, and thus can be satisfactorily installed in both fabrication facilities and in the field either as an original or replacement grip. The invention also includes an implement fitted with such grip. Representative implements include sports implements such as golf clubs, tennis racquets, weight bars and fishing poles, as well as tools such as hammers, drills, pliers, shovels, axes, and the like. The grip is preferable made of a swellable elastomeric material, preferably a natural or synthetic rubber. Suitable rubbers include EPDM rubber, neoprene or chlorosulfonate polyethylene (Hypalon(TM)) rubber, of which EPDM rubber is preferred.

The present invention is directed to blended monolayer films and multilayer films having odor barrier properties, methods of making such films, and bags made from such films. Blended monolayer films include blends of non-elastic polyesters and blends of non-elastic polyesters, polyester thermoplastic elastomers, polyolefins, or combinations thereof. Multilayer thermoplastic films include a plurality of layers of film. The plurality of layers of film includes at least one non-elastic polyester layer of film and at least one additional layer of film. The one additional layers of film can be polyester thermoplastic elastomer layers, polyolefin layers, nylon layers, and combinations thereof. Blended monolayer films and multilayer films are a substantial odor barrier for at least 3 days and have a gauge thickness of from about 0.00015 to about 0.01 inches.

There is provided method for joining dissimilar metals of a steel product and a light metal product with each other, wherein the light metal product and a rivet made of an iron-base metal are connected with each other beforehand in a previous process preceding spot welding, and subsequently, the rivet and the steel product are spot welded with each other. Then, a cavity for use in clinching the light metal product is formed, and upon the stem of the rivet is embedded into the light metal product to penetrate therethrough, light metal is caused to undergo plastic flow into the cavity of the rivet, for clinching the light metal product to be thereby clinched with the rivet whereupon spot welding for forming a weld nugget only within the scope of an interface between the stem of the rivet, and the steel product is carried out. Thus, the present invention can implement the spot welding between iron—iron similar metals, without a constraint on, and a problem with conditions applicable to the spot welding and a high joint strength can be obtained owing to the synergistic effect of the spot welding and connection by clinching of the aluminum alloy product with the iron-base rivet, added thereto.

The invention provides a heat-shrinkable multi-layer film comprising at least a thermoplastic resin layer as the outermost layer (A), a gas barrier resin layer as a core layer (B) and a sealing resin layer as the innermost layer (C), and optionally an adhesive layer between the individual layers, wherein (1) the sealing resin layer of the innermost layer (C) is a layer formed of a resin material (b) comprising a linear ethylene-1-octene copolymer (a) obtained by using a constrained geometry catalyst and having an 1-octene content not lower than 1 wt. % but lower than 20 wt. % and a density higher than 0.885 g/cm3 but not higher than 0.960 g/cm3, and (2) an intermediate layer (D1) formed of at least one resin (c) selected from the group consisting of polyamide resins, thermoplastic polyester resins and ethylene copolymer resins is provided between the outermost layer (A) and the core layer (B). The film has excellent sealing properties, clarity, mechanical strength, stretchability and bag-making property.

Disclosed is a specific adhesive polyethylene composition comprising [1] a modified ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer resin or elastomer obtained by modifying a specific ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer resin or elastomer, each of which comprises ethylene and an alpha-olefin of 3 to 20 carbon atoms, with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or anhydride, ester, amide, imide or metallic salt derivative of a unsaturated carboxylic acid thereof, [2] an unmodified ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer resin and/or an unmodified ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer elastomer and [3] a tackifier. Also disclosed is a multi-layer laminated film of 3 or more layers in which a layer of the above composition is interposed between an ethylene polymer layer and either a polyamide resin layer, an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer layer or a layer of a mixture of polyamide resin and ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer. The adhesive polyethylene composition shows excellent adhesion strength to ethylene polymers, polyamide resins and ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymers, high heat-sealing strength and heat resistance. The multi-layer laminated film shows excellent strength, heat resistance and gas barrier properties, and besides this film has heat shrinkability, so that the film is suitably used as a shrink film.

A heat shrinkable film suitable for use in cook-in applications is provided which exhibits a transverse direction free shrink at 50° C. of less than about 2% and a transverse direction free shrink at 57° C. of at least about 3%. The film has at least two layers. The first layer includes an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer and the film has a second layer directly adhered to the first layer, the second layer including at least one member selected from the group consisting of polyester, polyamide and polyurethane. Preferably, the desired shrink properties are attained by annealing the film under controlled conditions.

A shrink film comprises a skin layer and a base layer. The skin layer may comprise polystyrene or modified polyester. The base layer may comprise alpha-olefin/cyclic-olefin copolymer or alpha-olefin/vinyl aromatic copolymer. The film has a free shrink at 100° C. of at least about 10%. The film is useful for shrink sleeve applications.

A product packaging comprises a cap on a transparent bottle to seal in a protected product. The cap includes an RFID chip and antenna that can report a serial number and product identification code to a nearby scanner. Reports from several such scanners in the distribution chain from manufacturer to retailers are logged and used to validate legitimate products by their movements. The caps are designed such that when opened the RFID antenna will break away from its associated RFID chip. The cap is molded of cross-linked polymers with a memory that makes it impossible to reseat it properly to the bottle once removed. A hologram target is placed backwards under a label on the side of the bottle so a laser beam can be directed through the backside of the bottle, through the contents, and to the hologram. The reflected laser light will have a signature that is very sensitive to the exact chemistry of the contents. In a method for producing hollow fiber membranes which comprises melt kneading a mixture comprising polyvinylidene fluoride and an organic liquid or a mixture comprising polyvinylidene fluoride, an organic liquid and an inorganic fine powder, extruding the kneaded mixture to form hollow fibers, and extracting the organic liquid or the organic liquid and the inorganic fine powder from the hollow fibers, which includes the steps of drawing the hollow fibers before or after termination of the extraction and then shrinking the fibers. According to this method, it is possible to stably produce hollow fiber membranes having dense pores and having a high water permeation performance, excellent endurance and stain resistance, and which are suitable for filtration uses such as removal of turbidity of water.

The present invention relates to a self-rolling pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet, comprising a shrinkable film layer which is contractible in at least one axial direction; a restriction layer restricting a contraction of the shrinkable film layer, the restriction layer being disposed on a side of the shrinkable film layer; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer disposed on the side of the restriction layer which is opposite to the side on which the shrinkable film layer is disposed, the self-rolling pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet being a releasable pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet, in which the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer or the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer after an adhesiveness decreasing treatment has a pressure-sensitive adhesive power (180° peeling, against a silicon mirror wafer, tensile speed: 300 mm/min) of 6.5 N/10 mm or less, and in which the self-rolling pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet rolls up in one direction from an end to form one tubular roll or rolls up from two opposing ends toward a center of the two opposing ends to form two tubular rolls, when the self-rolling pressure-sensitive sheet is stimulated to induce the contraction of the shrinkable film layer. The self-rolling pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet can be very easily peeled off from an adherend without causing a damage or a contamination on the adherend, even when it is adhered to an adherend of a relatively low strength.

A method of shrinking a film comprises the steps of providing a shrink film and exposing the film to an amount of radiation energy effective to activate the shrink characteristic of the film. The film comprises one or more thermoplastic polymers and at least about 0.001 weight % of single-walled carbon nanotube material based on the weight of the film.

A laminated film comprising a surface layer (S layer) composed mainly of a polyester resin, an intermediate layer (M layer) composed mainly of a styrene resin and an adhesive layer (AD layer) composed mainly of an adhesive resin, wherein its heat shrinkage is at least 30% in at least one direction when it is dipped in warm water of 80° C. for 10 seconds, or its tensile modulus of elasticity in a direction perpendicular to the main shrink direction is at least 1,200 MPa.

A tape-reinforced tubular vascular graft formed of sintered fluoropolymer(s), such as expanded, sintered PTFE. The graft includes a base graft and a reinforcing tape applied thereto. The tape may be spirally wrapped about the graft or spirally wrapped into a tube about a cylindrical mandrel and then applied to the exterior of The graft. Radial shrinkage of the combined base graft and tape, or of the reinforcing tape tube, renders the vascular graft subsequently radially enlargeable by more than 5%, without tearing or breaking of the reinforcement tape layer of the graft. Radially enlargeable grafts of the present invention may be combined with various types of stents or anchoring systems, to form endovascular graft devices which are transluminally insertable and implantable within the lumen of a host blood vessel. Alternatively, radially enlargeable grafts of the present invention may be implanted by way of traditional surgical graft implantation techniques, without any radial enlargement of the graft at the time of implantation, so as to take advantage of the improved strength properties and suture-holding properties of the radially-shrunken tape-reinforced grafts of the present invention.
