A threaded insert, also known as a threaded bushing, is a fastener element that is inserted into an object to add a threaded hole. They may be used to repair a stripped threaded hole, provide a durable threaded hole in a soft material, place a thread on a material too thin to accept it, mold or cast threads into a work piece thereby eliminating a machining operation, or simplify changeover from unified to metric threads or vice versa.

Dynamic fixation assemblies with inner core and outer coil-like member

A dynamic fixation medical implant includes a longitudinal connecting member assembly having an elongate coil-like outer member and an inner cylindrical core attached to the outer member at only one end thereof. Some assemblies include a second longitudinal connecting member in the form of a rod that is fixed to the inner core and extends outwardly from the assembly. Certain assemblies include a threaded core or threaded inserts that cooperate with a helical slit of the coil-like outer member. Two or more cooperating bone screw assemblies attach to the connecting member assembly. The bone screw assemblies may include upper and lower compression members for affixing to and cradling the coil-like outer member only, allowing relative movement between the outer member and the inner cylindrical core. Press fit or snap-on features attach one end of the coil-like outer member to one end of the inner cylindrical core.

Spin resistant threaded insert

ActiveUS20080193256A1Prevent exitIncreased spin out valueNutsBoltsScrew threadBiomedical engineering
A threaded collapsible insert is utilized for insertion into a hole in a workpiece for subsequent installation of a threaded fastener. The insert has a axially-aligned opening extending for most or all of the entire length of the body of the insert. The hollow body has a first section and a second section, where the wall thickness of the first section is less than the wall thickness of the second section, such that the first section preferentially collapses upon application of a linear force to the insert. The second section comprises internal threads for engaging the fastener. The head member has a top side and an underside. The underside of the head member may comprise a plurality of knurls radiating outwardly on the underside of the flange. The outside of the first section may also comprise a plurality of axially aligned rib members extending from the proximal end to the distal end.

Turbochargers

A turbocharger has a shaft formed of a strong material such as steel and an impeller formed of a relatively weaker material such as aluminum alloy. The impeller is mounted on the shaft by means of an internally-threaded insert, for example also of steel, interference fitted into the impeller hub. To prevent loss of the interference fit between the insert and impeller during thermal and speed excursions of the impeller during operation of the turbocharger, a constraining ring is fitted to the hub of the impeller. The ring is of a material having a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the impeller and surrounds at least a part of that axial length of the impeller which overlies the insert.

System for Joining a Barrel to the Receiver of a Bolt Action Rifle

An improved action for a bolt action rifle. The action includes a receiver containing a bolt; the bolt having two to three locking lugs surrounding a bolt face; and a threaded insert that joins the rifle barrel to the receiver. The insert also includes a series of locking lugs that mate with the locking lugs on the bolt. The position of the insert lugs relative to the barrel will position the bolt face relative to the barrel's chamber when the bolt is closed. Thus, the insert and barrel can properly set the rifle's headspace. The insert and receiver are preferably each provided with a locking lug, that serve to align the axes of the insert and receiver. The threads of the insert and the barrel are co-axial which serves to align the axes of the insert and barrel. Thus, assembled, the receiver, insert and barrel will be substantially co-axial.

Threaded insert for receiving a threaded fastener in a composite panel

InactiveUS20080292425A1Reversing the nut loadingNutsBoltsReusabilityEngineering
A threaded insert for use in a composite and / or honey-comb matrix has a nut member disposed within a plastic housing. The threads of the nut member have a free running thread section and a thread lock section. When a fastener is made up into the nut member, a surface on the nut member engages an opposite-facing surface on the plastic housing, thereby reversing the nut loading from tensile loading to compression loading. A thermoplastic embodiment of the nut member may be fabricated to meet the specifications of aircraft manufacturers required for the SL2334 insert, including thread reusability, tensile loading (pullout load), shear, and interchangeability with the metal component currently in use.

Thread replacement system and device

The present invention relates to a system and device which allows the replacement of a damaged thread in an object with a thread identical to the damaged thread by enlarging the original threaded hole and inserting a thread-insert in a newly threaded hole in the object which has an internally threaded hole identical to the original threaded hole. The thread-insert is fastened into the enlarged hole using a thread that securely holds it in place. When the thread-insert is threaded into the enlarged threaded hole, a pocket formed below the drive head of the thread-insert causes metal flow into the pocket to create a seal between the thread-insert and the object.
