1797 results about "Rifle" patented technology

A rifle is a portable, long-barrelled firearm designed for accurate long-range shooting, to be held with both hands and braced against the shoulder for stability during firing, and with a barrel that has a helical pattern of grooves ("rifling") cut into the bore wall. The term was originally rifled gun, with the word "rifle" referring to the machining process of creating groovings with cutting tools, and is now used for any long handheld device designed for well-aimed discharge activated by a trigger, such as the personnel halting and stimulation response rifle. Rifles are used extensively in warfare, law enforcement, hunting and shooting sports.

Projectile firing device using liquified gas propellant

Rifle (1) comprises barrel (2) and loading means (15) for introducing a projectile from magazine (7) into breech (4). The projectile is propelled by a compressed gas propellant initially stored as a liquid in canister (10). The liquid is heated to a super critical state in chamber (8) by heating element (12) to induce a phase change such that the liquid becomes a highly dense gas. The phase change from liquid to gas provides the energy required to expel the projectile at high velocity from rifle (1), regardless of the ambient temperature. The propellant is preferably CO2 which is heated to 31.06° C. Rifle (1) produces minimal noise and no heat signature, making it suitable for military and stealth purposes. A pistol and launchers for grenades or mortar bombs are also disclosed. Another version can launch low earth orbit satellites or payloads.

Scope adjustment method and apparatus

A rifle scope system allows adjustment of the scope while a shooter maintains the shooting posture and the scope sight picture. The scope system comprises an adjustment system comprising an electromechanical mechanism that responds to a signal from a remote controller manipulated by the shooter without having to significantly disturb the shooting posture. The adjustment system allows the shooter to adjust the scope's point of aim to coincide with a bullet's point of impact at a target. Such adjustment can be performed either by the shooter. Alternatively, such adjustment could be performed by a processor configured to adjust the point of aim based on a ballistic parameter associated with the bullet or the shooting environment. The adjustment system allows such processor-determined adjustments to be effected in a quick manner.

Ballistic reticle for projectile weapon aiming systems and method of aiming

A reticle of a projectile weapon aiming system such as a riflescope includes a primary aiming mark adapted to be sighted-in at a first selected range and further includes a plurality of secondary aiming marks spaced apart below the primary aiming mark. The secondary aiming marks are positioned to compensate for ballistic drop at preselected incremental ranges beyond the first selected range, for a selected group of ammunition having similar ballistic characteristics. Angles subtended by adjacent aiming marks of the reticle can be adjusted by changing the optical power of the riflescope, to thereby compensate for ballistic characteristics of different ammunition. In some embodiments, the reticle includes a set of windage aiming marks spaced apart along at least one secondary horizontal axis intersecting a selected one of the secondary aiming marks, to facilitate compensation for the effect of crosswinds on the trajectory of the projectile.

A sight system is provided which may be selectively used in a variety of different ways. In one example, the sight system may be positioned on a rifle to provide a rifle sight system. In this example, the sight system may be positioned on the rifle barrel a substantial distance away from a user's eye. Advantageously, such an implementation may permit a user to effectively sight the rifle without compromising situational awareness. In another example, the sight system may be used to provide a telescopic sight with a reticle (e.g., a dot, crosshair, mark, or other appropriate shape) superimposed on an image (e.g., a zoomed or non-zoomed image) displayed from a camera. In another example, the sight system may be used to provide an occluded sight in which a camera and / or display of the sight system is disabled. As a result, a reticle may be displayed over an opaque background.

Pivotable shoulder stock and handgun combination

A pivotable shoulder stock for use in combination with a handgun includes a mirror and allows the user to aim and fire an equipped laser handgun around the corner of a building or other obstacle. The user is able to fire with relative accuracy from behind a building or other obstacle using the mirror attached to the shoulder stock. The mirror can be adjustably positioned for viewing in order to fire the handgun at about a ninety degree (90°) angle in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. The mirror can be revolved to a downward posture when firing the handgun in a linear direction similar to a rifle or for storage purposes. The pivotable shoulder stock is relatively simple to operate and can be quickly adjusted by latching the second section against the first section for use as a hand weapon rather than being shoulder fired.

Ambidextrous magazine catch for firearms

The present invention relates to a retaining and release mechanism for the magazines of automatic and / or semi-automatic firearms, in particular to a type of magazine which is provided with a lateral securing slot. A tooth (52) of lever (54) is designed to engage lateral securing slot (34) of magazine (30). Said lever (54) is pivotally connected to a shaft (36), located transversely in body (16) of the firearm, by means of a pin (58) and attached at its opposite end to an operating push button (44). A lever seat (60) of said lever (54) is urged towards said body (16) of the firearm and firmly abuts a seat (50) of a magazine catch slot (28) by energy exerted through a spring (42) against said operating push button (44) and a spring cavity (74). The tooth (52) can be disengaged from lateral securing slot (34) by depressing either operating push button (44) or a depression extension (66) of said lever (54). The magazine (30) can thus be released from both sides of the rifle.

Handguard system integrated to a firearm

InactiveUS7523580B1Substantial weightSubstantial size savingButtsEngineeringGun barrel
Existing floating handguards have the problem of adding size and weight to M16 style gas operated rifles because these tubular handguards attach to a relatively large diametral surface which lies outward of a firearm operating member or gas tube. Existing handguards are mounted thus so that the handguard inside surface will mechanically clear the gas tube. The present invention solves this problem by providing a handguard system integrated to a firearm, the system having a one-piece extended barrel nut with a smaller diameter outer surface configured to lie inward of the gas tube, between the gas tube and the barrel. A one-piece generally tubular handguard has an outer surface with a longitudinal rib and an inner surface with an inner diameter and a groove which is aligned with the rib. The handguard inner diameter engages the barrel nut outer surface and the groove provides clearance for the gas tube. The rib is configured to maintain the rigidity of the handguard adjacent the groove.
