Based on different properties of light reflectivity between defect area and no defect area on surface of strip steel, the invention carries out process and analysis for image on surface of strip steel collected by camera, so as to determine whether there are defects on surface of strip steel and sort the defects. The invention does not need of unpacking roller, installing baffle, uses fewer light sources so as to lower cost of hardware, and maintenance cost. Since laser light possesses good condensation performance and monochromaticity, images on surface of strip steel collected by camera are in good quality. Thus, tiny defect can be detected.
