Abstract

The invention discloses a method for switching a PTN (packet transport network) device and an ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) and relates to the technologies of PTN and ATM. The PTN device comprises an ATM interface processing unit, an ATM switching unit, an emulating processing unit and a packet switching processing unit. The ATM interface processing unit recovers an ATM cell from a physical layer signal, encodes the ATM cell sent by a switching path into the physical layer signal and sends the physical layer signal to an ATM network. The ATM switching unit is used for VP (virtual path) / VC (virtual channel) switching for the ATM cell recovered by the switching path. The emulating processing unit encapsulates the ATM cell recovered by the switching path, sends the ATM cell to the packet switching processing unit, and decapsulates emulation frames sent by the packet switching processing unit to restore the ATM cell. The packet switching processing unit determines switching paths of the received emulation frames and switches the emulation frames to the determined switching paths.
